Cortina d'Ampezzo

Cortina dampezzo

The Ampezzo valley lies within a natural amphitheatre that is both open to the sun and sheltered by the natural walls of Pomagagnon at the north, which not only provide a fitting backdrop to the incredible natural landscape, but also protect it from wind.

The valley goes from the Falzarego pass to the Three Cross pass, and is surrounded by the most beautiful mountain groups of the eastern Dolomites. Sorapiss, Antelao, Croda da Lago, Tofane, Croda Rossa/Rotwand, Cristallo, romantically framed by forests, made even more precious by the astonishing play of lights, where shadows intertwine with the pinkish hues of the rocks during the many hours of the day.

This area is indeed colours! Colours that change when one season meets the next: from the green meadows and forests and the blue sky and lakes, to the white of the snow-covered peaks, passing through the warm golden hues of autumn.

There is always an abundance of cultural initiatives, such as art exhibitions and literary meetings hosted by the "R. Zardini" Palaeontological Museum , The Ampezzo Etnographic Museum and the Rimoldi art gallery.

Among the classic forms of entertainment is also the shopping in the elegant shops of Corso Italia, local traditional events, and international sports events such as the skiing World Cup.
From centurion of the Cadore region in the fifteenth century, Cortina started growing as a tourist location already during the second half of the nineteenth century, finally becoming the main centre of the Dolomites at the beginning of the twentieth century. During the times, it has become an internationally recognised tourist destination, loved by intellectuals, artists, princes, and the rich and famous. And just like in the past, even now each time of the year gives tourists something to dream about.
The beauty of the mountains and the endless excursion possibilities; the opportunity of taking on different sports, from the more traditional ones such as tennis, swimming, golf, horse riding and mountain biking, to the most extreme ones, like canyoning.

In winter, there are 110 km of downhill and 58 km of cross-country skiing tracks, and 37 ski-lift systems. But there is also the possibility of engaging in many other activities: skating, sledging, walks on snow shoes, sledge dog riding, climbing frozen waterfalls.
